Fallow Deer Leg Bone Pack | Knife Handles, Staffs, Jewellery, Display & More
Each pack contains:
- x4 splint bone (metacarpal) approx 30cm(L) 4.5cm(W)
- x6 toe bones
- x4 tarsal bones
*Disclaimer- while we have cleaned these bones we haven't gone over top with degreasing and some longer bones may contain minimum traces of oil. This oil is not rancid and it prevents the bone from completely drying out as they splinter and split when being cut or carved if the bone is completely deprived of natural oils.
Deer bone has been used for centuries to make knife handles, other weapons and tools in the Saxon period.
It's long, smooth and durable making an optimal animal to hunt for both food and resources. Deer are abundant breeders, excellent grazers and hardy animals giving them a wide territorial range to roam through the world.
While wild deer can be found throughout Australia they are also bred in captivity for meat.
Our fallow deer is sustainably sourced from contract shootings from independent hunters, farmers and roadkill. We work exclusively with two independent hunters in South Australia that take no part or support in government air culling.
The deer bones we clean and sell are cleaned up from rural roads in South Australia or hunted for food or pest control on private property.
