European Badger Pelt WITH CLAWS | Meles Meles | Poland
The European badger is a protected species across Europe, but legislations vary across states.
Some states in Europe do not permit hunting or harvesting badgers at all, while some states permit hunting and harvesting with the correct permits during seasonal hunting periods.
A Grade- minimal noticeable tears, full intact face, leg fur with natural claws.
B Grade- tearing to the face area (see photo), leg fur with natural claws.
(both pelts have claws and tails)
These pelts are from Poland, hunted by someone with a ranch that is permitted to hunt badgers during the hunting season period.
The badger is harvested for meat, and they have sold me the skins.
These are not mass-produced furs; these are hand-tanned to requested specifications that I have asked for, which did make them slightly more costly to produce. I asked for the claws to be left on the pelts.
Stock is limited because they do not hunt badgers for sport or trophies. It is solely to stop a choice few that have been destroying the pasture for their pigs and horses. The burrowing resulted in one of their horses becoming lame due to a bad tendon injury. It can take up to 12 months for a horse to recover from this sort of injury, which isn't ideal when you use your horse for working.
Euthanasia of badgers is sometimes extremely necessary due to rabies. Sometimes badgers can populate an area they shouldn't and destroy pastures and crops and disrupt native vegetation due to their extreme burrowing habits.
