Bumblebee Bee | Tasmania
Bumblebees are large, fuzzy, and cute species of bees.
However, the bumblebee is introduced to Tasmania and prohibited on the mainland of Australia due to the impact they have on the native ecosystem. Although the bumblebee is classified as a pest species, they are still good pollinators, and the curiosity shop does not kill bees for selling.
We have limited quantities and unpredictable availability due to the collection of bees we find deceased. Due to this it is more than likely the specimen may have some tattered wings, dead specimens usually aren't perfect to standard, I'll only send the ones with minimal damage and all legs which also limits the number we will have available.
Bumblebees have a short and hard-working lifespan of approximately 28 days. When a bumblebee dies in the nest, the workers will carry the dead out of the nest. Bumblebees will also die due to different weather circumstances, such as extreme heat, and can be found around popular bee trees, such as our red flowering gums, as well as outside their nests.
All bumblebees are fumigated and dried prior to shipping and can be shipped (deceased only) Australia-wide.
