A Grade Feral Cat Skulls | Tasmania

For further discussion, photos and continued information on feral cats, for the sake of transparency, you can search our Facebook page to bring up past discussions.

*Disclaimer-All cats caught, culled or found by me and my associates are checked for microchips. If a cat is not microchipped, but a collar is present, all cat owners are tracked down and cats returned home. I am very rural, any cats culled on my property are not pets.

All skulls from this listing have unfortunately had to be culled from my property and other private farming and agricultural properties. This is to secure the wellbeing of our livestock/poultry and other small animals as well as the wildlife living on the properties.

There are known families of pygmy possums living here and, therefore, not only are they protected but the land they choose to make their home on is also protected.

We haven't seen a feral cat properly this bad on the property since 2016 and then suddenly they returned in abundance. They have taken my chickens, some I've had for so many years that I am absolutely devastated. This is how they met their end. They were even snatched during the day when we were home, so we knew we had to start setting our traps.

With the help of contract shooters, we have managed to get the situation under control and, as heartbreaking as it is to make the choice to cull these animals, we cannot stand by and allow them to kill small vulnerable native wildlife, poultry and small critters for fun every day. The majority of chicken and birds we find around the property are not eaten, only killed and savaged and then left.

I am very strict about my culling protocols and with me having to take charge and make the tough calls, I know that the cats are treated with respect. Our traps are checked two times a day or each time we are passing by. The cats are not left in the traps for long. The aim is to get the euthanasia over with as quickly as possible without provoking a huge stress toll on the animal. We always try to get a headshot, but sometimes it's impossible for a fast moving animal or an animal running at a distance.

The cats are euthanized by gunshot. The shooter has been a contracted shooter and hunter for over 35 years. They have a lot of experience and there is no hesitation or mucking about. The job is swift and efficient each time.

You can visit our Facebook page for discussion and pictures to try and aim for 100% transparency on how and where we are sourcing animals such as feral cats.

The best we can hope for in the future is that more cat owners become aware of the impact these animals have on our environment, desexing and keeping their own cats indoors or in outdoor enclosures. We certainly hope those who are dumping or have considered dumping unwanted cats think about the impact before doing so also.
